Our First Scottish Road Trip

Scotland, you beauty. I was in awe as we drove around the many old towns, lochs and glens of Scotland, it truly is a breathtaking part of the United Kingdom! This post will mainly be images, because I think anything more will detract from the sheer beauty of Scotland. We spent just under a week touring up from the Midlands through the Cairngorms, to Loch Ness, back down through Fort William, Ben Nevis, gorgeous Glencoe and to the lively Glasgow and Edinburgh. So this isn't a how-to guide, or anything remotely helpful.... What it is though, is a virtual escape through late winter Scotland, and a heavy dose of "I need to go see this myself". I hope you like the photos!

Edinburgh by night, Arthurs Seat, scotland

Fun fact: The night shot above of Edinburgh Castle and the clock tower was taken from the top pf Arthurs Seat, which is the hill in the photo below. I made Micky hold my handbag and hoist me up onto a wall (the wall beside the pantheon-like building in the photo!) to get the shot. It was super windy and very cold, and we were like icicles by the time I was done!

So what do you think? Isn't it gorgeous? We didn't spend enough time in all of these places and I can't wait to go back, to Glasgow and Edinburgh especially. I fell in love with Edinburgh because of it's incredible history and literary inspiration (hello, Harry Potter and Sherlock Holmes) and there's just so much to do. Glasgow was a flying visit, and I didn't get a chance to take many great photos, but you can find more shots on the Instagram - check them out here!

I'd love to know your thoughts on Scotland, my pictures or where you would recommend going to next in Scotland - leave me a comment below or send me a tweet!
